Overview

This renovation project delivered a comprehensive transformation of the existing space, enhancing both functionality and learning environments. A key feature of the expansion was the creation of a new clinical care teaching area, designed to support modern educational practices.

Internal reconfiguration works involved the removal of outdated partitions and the installation of contemporary glazed screens, improving visibility and spatial flow. Modifications also included repositioning the laboratory entrance to optimize access and usability.

Solution

Unforeseen delays required a revised plan for works originally scheduled during a shutdown. An alternative approach allowed progress within timeframes that suited building operations. To minimize disruption, fourth-floor access was restricted, and a dedicated logistics route via the basement loading bay—shared with the University and other contractors—was established.

Outcome

The collaborative and flexible approach ensured the successful completion of the project while maintaining the integrity of the live environment. Close liaison with Stoke-on-Trent City Council was essential to the successful delivery of this project.

The completed project has delivered a modern, functional learning environment through a combination of expansion and refurbishment.

Aston University now benefits from enhanced clinical care teaching areas and updated facilities that support contemporary educational practices.
